LGBT in Alabama

In the spring of 2018 Morrigan and graphics/multimedia editor, Rebecca Lieberman wanted to tell a story about L.G.B.T.Q.+ pride outside of major urban centers. They settled on Alabama, where L.G.B.T.Q.+ individuals still lack legal protection from discrimination and face barriers to marriage and adoption.

Morrigan hired photographer Annie Flanagan to travel through the state for ten days, interviewing and documenting the lives of people she met along the way.

Morrigan and Rebecca produced the story and it ran online and in the National section of The New York Times. “Love and Pride in Alabama: A Photo Album“ won a 2019 Society for News Design Bronze medal for Best of Digital- Gender/Identity & Society.
